Malahini La'au Lapa'au Remedies


Love Simmering Potpourri

    • 3 tbsp. rose petals
    • 2 tbsp. chamomile
    • 2 tbsp. galangal
    • 1 tbsp. lavender
    • 1 tsp. cinnamon

      Simmer the herbs & flowers gently in a pot of boiling water for 30mins to release the beautiful aroma.


Aches & Pains Soothing Bath

    • 8 oz. Epsom salt
    • 2 oz. sea salt
    • 2 tbsp. baking soda
    • 1 tsp. Bay
    • 1 tsp. Juniper Berries
    • 1 tsp. Oregano
    • 1 tsp. Sage
    • 1 tsp. Strawberry Leaves

Blonde Hair Highlighter

      For blonde hair, toss several handfuls of chamomile flowers in a non-reactive pot and cover with water. Bring slowly to a boil, cover, and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool, strain, and use as the final rinse when shampooing.


Calming Bath Fizzies

    • 4 oz. sea salt
    • 5 oz. citric acid
    • 10 oz. baking soda
    • witch hazel
    • rosemary essential oil
    • 2 oz. borage

      Place the borage in the bottom of a soap mold. Mix all the remaining ingredients & when firm shape into moulds. Allow to dry overnight, then remove from moulds & package in an airtight container.


Chesty Cough Remedy

      Simmer a licorice root stick in a cupful of water for 5 minutes. Remove licorice. Add 2 tablespoons milk (more or less to taste) and 1 teaspoon of slippery elm powder. Whisk to a smooth consistency. Add cinnamon, clove or ginger powder for taste. Sweeten with honey, if desired.


Cleansing Tea

    • 2 tsp. uva ursi
    • 2 tsp. fennel seeds
    • 2 tsp. goldenrod
    • 2 tsp. chicory root
    • 1 tsp. marjoram
    • 1 tsp. comfrey

      Mix together and place in an airtight container. Soak 3tsp of the mix overnight. Then boil for 15mins and strain. Drink warm.


Comfrey Baby Oil

    • 4 oz. sweet almond oil
    • 2 tbsp. comfrey
    • 1 drop lavender oil

      In a clean jar, pour the oil over the comfrey. Leave in a dark warm place for 2 days. Strain & add the lavender oil. Shake well. Can be used as a moisturiser.


Fennel & Lemon Balm Tea

    • 10g fennel seed
    • 15g lemon balm
    • 3g cinnamon bark
    • 500ml water

      To calm the stomach from nervous stress. Put herbs into teapot add boiling water, and leave to infuse for 10min. Strain into covered jar store in a cool place. Take wineglass dose as required.


Harmony Blend Tea

    • 1 part dandelion
    • 1 part licorice
    • 1 part ginger root
    • 1 part fennel seeds
    • 1 part star anise
    • 1 part burdock root
    • 1 part wild yam
    • 1 part cinnamon bark
    • 1 part orange peel

      A harmonizing and energizing blend, you will find it enjoyable and flavourful. Steep 1 tsp. of mixture per cup.


Lavendar Body Powder

    • 1 c. finely ground dried lavender buds (or lavender buds powdered)
    • 1 c. bentonite clay
    • 1.5 c. cornstarch
    • Lavender essential oil

      Combine all ingredients in a glass bowl. Mix the clay and the cornstarch together, add your powdered lavender buds, and then 3-5 drops of Lavender essential oil. Allow mixture to sit, covered, in the bowl for a day, then transfer everything into a shaker jar.


Lemon Mint Tea

    • 4 parts peppermint
    • 2 parts spearmint
    • 2 parts lemongrass
    • 1 part lemon peel
    • 1/2 part hibiscus


Memory Tea

    • 3 tsp. peppermint
    • 2 tsp. ginseng
    • 2 tsp. lemongrass
    • 2 tsp. orange peel
    • 1 tsp. ginkgo
    • 1 tsp. hibiscus
    • 1 tsp. rosemary

      Use 1 tsp. of this mixture per cup of boiling water. Stored best in a dark glass container.


Mullein Flower Tea

      An aromatic tea can be made by steeping 1 tablespoon dried mullein flowers in 1 cup water for 5 to 10 minutes. For children and the elderly, use milk instead of water. Sweeten with honey, if desired. An infusion of the flowers is sometimes used to dye the hair a golden color.


Relaxing Herbal Bath

    • 1 tsp. rosemary
    • 1 tsp. thyme
    • 1 tsp. sage
    • 1 tsp. lavender flowers


Spicey Raspberry Tea

    • 2 pints of water
    • 2 sticks cinnamon
    • 2 tbsp. ginger
    • 2 tbsp. nettles
    • 2 tbsp. raspberry leaves

      Simmer the ginger & cinnamon for 5mins, add the nettles & raspberry leaves. Remove from the heat and let infuse for 10mins.
